The International Federation of Journalists and its affiliated media organizations declared February 26 as World Solidarity Day to protest the killing of Palestinian journalists and civilians by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip. “Stop Israel’s Genocide of Journalists and Civilians Immediately!” This Palestine Solidarity Day was announced under the slogan.

In conjunction with Palestine Solidarity Day, the Federation of Media Employees Trade Unions (FMETU) organized the solidarity meeting with the press conference organized at the premises of Rainbow Institute, Colombo 05.

               

General Secretary Dharmasiri Lankapeli, President Ms. Krishna Ifam, National Organizer Tarindu Uduwaragedara, V Selva Kumar of Jaffna Press Club, and Sherifa Tahir, an executive member of the Federation, joined the event and expressed their support to the civilians of Palestinians and Palestine Journalists Syndicate.

They appealed to the world leaders led by the United Nations and strongly requested to end this genocidal war immediately and give the Palestinian people the opportunity to live in their independent state.

In particular, journalists and civilians in Sri Lanka strongly requested the State of Israel to immediately stop this brutal genocidal war, which has killed more than 102 Palestinian journalists and killed tens of thousands of civilians.
