No more Seetha’s voice! Her ideals endure for centuries!<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is with deep sorrow that the Federation of Media Employees Trade Unions (FMETU) mourns the passing of veteran journalist and social activist Seetha Ranjani, who dedicated decades of her life to fearless journalism and the struggle for media freedom in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Seetha Ranjani was not only a renowned journalist but also a staunch defender of press freedom and social justice. She played a pioneering role in the Free Media Movement (FMM), serving as one of its conveners, and remained at the forefront of the fight against media suppression during some of the most challenging periods in Sri Lankan history. Her unwavering commitment to democratic values, human rights, and the protection of journalists made her a formidable force in the media landscape.<\/p>\n

She dedicated her life to writing, activism, and advocating for press freedom. She was a journalist at the Yukthiya newspaper, a publication known for its bold reporting and commitment to truth. Despite facing immense challenges, including threats and intimidation, she remained steadfast in her mission to expose injustices and champion the cause of free and independent media. Beyond journalism, Seetha Ranjani was also a poet, literary critic, and an active voice in feminist movements, using her platform to advocate for gender equality and social justice. She was also a fearless supporter of the Tamil struggle in Sri Lanka. Her contributions to the fields of literature, cinema criticism, and activism remain an inspiration to many.<\/p>\n

Her passing is an irreplaceable loss to the Sri Lankan media fraternity and to all who believe in the principles of press freedom and democracy. The Federation of Media Employees Trade Unions honors her legacy and remains committed to continuing the struggle for freedom, a cause to which she devoted her life. Her voice may be silenced, but her ideals and contributions will continue to inspire generations of journalists and activists in Sri Lanka and beyond.<\/p>\n
