Independent Television Technical Officers’ Union was established in 1995. It is a professional union which is not affiliated to any political party. The ITTOU is one of the founder members of the Federation of Media Employees’ Trade Unions, and actively participated in its collective actions.

Main aim of ITTOU is to organize the technical officers at ITN under one banner in order to gain the workers rights and benefits, protecting their jobs from external and internal threats, take necessary actions to provide them legal advice from experts on their occupational problems, act as an intermediary to solve the occupational conflicts of the members, and cooperate with other unions and federations, etc.

At present our membership is 64, and almost all the technical officers are members of the ITTOU.

As a responsible union, we always try to use the Collective Bargaining method with our Management, to find out the solutions for our grievances.

Founding Members
In the year 1995, seven Technical Officers with the blessings of all the technical officers, were get together and decided to form an Union to upgrade the working environment and personal conditions of all Technical Officers attached to the Independent Television Network. B.A.Ponnamperuma, A.D.R. Amarasekara, U.S. Kulathileke, Sisira Kalyanapriya, K.W. Kithsiri Kumara, W. Nagahawatte, and R. Nilaweera were the seven technical officers initiated the ITTOU.

Founder President of the ITTOU was Anuruddha Udugama. Two Vice Presidents were A.D.R.Amarasekara & Uditha Hewawasam. B.A.Ponnamperuma functioned as the Secretary. Assistant Secretary was A.Lekamge. Sarath Gamage gave his service to the Union as the Treasurer. Assistant Treasurer was W. Nagahawatte. M.Siriwardane, J.Gunawardane, P.Rajamanthri, M.Thayaparan, T.J.D.Pieris, Shyama Jayasinghe, Sisira Kalyanapriya, R.Nilaweera, Aravinda Perera, & P.G.R.Siriwardane were performed as the Committee members of ITTOU.
