NATIONAL CONGRESS OF PROVINCIAL JOURNALIST - SRI LANKA

The Sri Lanka National Congress of Provincial Journalists held their inaugural meeting on December 20th in New Town Hall, Colombo. This was the first time district Provincial Journalists Organisations came together to form a national congress, to promote journalist safety, professionalism, gender equality, job security and fair wages, and public service journalism values.  The congress began after a media charter was drafted by the Free Media Movement (FMM), the Sri Lanka Working Journalists' Association (SLWJA), the Federation of Media Employees' Trade Unions (FMETU), Sri Lanka Tamil Media Alliance (SLTMA) and the Sri Lanka Muslim Media Forum (SLMMF), at a provincial journalists meeting on September 11, assisted by IFJ Asia Pacific Director Jacqueline Park.
